How To Eat A Lobster

If you have never eaten a lobster, are new to the lobster scene, or just haven't had a lobster since last season these tips are for you!

A lobster can be a daunting meal if you don't know how to eat it. Hopefully after reading this you will have an idea of what to do!

First: Grab Your Bib Make sure you are prepared because things are going to start getting messy! Bits of lobster may fling from your fork, or you might drip butter down the front of you. Don't worry though, it is all part of the lobster eating process. If you want to stay dry, bib up!

Second: Twist, Pull & Get Crackin'

  1. Start by removing the claws from the body by basically just twisting at the base of each claw and pulling! Use a fork to dig out the meat from the arms and break the claws at the joint. Use a fork or pick to get the meat out.

  2. When you're finished with the claws move to the legs. Simply twist and pull the legs off the body. It is easy (and yummy) to suck the meat out of the legs this way!

  3. Separate the tail from the body by twisting the tail and pulling apart Use a fork or a pick to remove the meat from the tail in one piece. Twist the "flippers" from the tail and pull out the meat inside. Find and remove the large black vein in the tail meat - this is the bowel and not something typically eaten!

  4. Open the shell of the main body by pulling the back shell away from the main body and pick out any pieces of white meat that you can find.

  5. You will fine the Tomalley when you body the body. This is the lobster's liver, avoided by some but loved by diehard lobster fans. It's a gray substance found in the body of the lobster among the innards. If you are really adventurous the tastiest piece of meat is behind the eyes in the shell.

Remember not to worry too much about getting messy and do whatever it takes to help the lobster out of the shell! Use your hands and dip your lobster into melted butter for an extra yummy experience.

It may take some time but your hard work will be rewarded with each and every bite.
